Race events are highly competitive, developer-sanctioned speedrunning tournaments hosted by Grinding Gear Games (GGG). Rather than focusing on end-game maps, these sprint-style races challenge the community to beat specific campaign milestones under strict, equalized constraints.

The Rules & Environment
Every official PoE 2 race uses a hyper-specific ruleset designed to measure raw routing skill, mechanical efficiency, and boss mastery:

Standard Solo Self-Found (SSF): You cannot party up, trade gear, or accept help from other players. Your character must completely build its own progression from scratch.

Fixed Layouts: The game world generation is locked into a specific seed. Unlike the main game where zones randomize, the map layout is identical for everyone, allowing players to practice precise routing.

The Death Penalty: These are not Hardcore (permadeath) events, meaning you do not lose your character if you die. Instead, dying inflicts a brutal 1-minute stun penalty where your character is frozen in place and completely unable to move.

Locked Start: You register and create your character directly from the character selection screen before the event begins. Your character spawns onto the beach but remains entirely immobilized until the global countdown hits zero.

Third-Party Bans: Client modifications (including ultrawide aspect ratio fixes that artificially increase field-of-view) are strictly forbidden and will result in account bans.

Eligibility: GGG staff members and players who participated in closed alpha testing for the specific content are excluded from winning prizes.

Exclusive Rewards & Prizes
GGG has designed race rewards to favor extreme prestige over broad participation, prompting a highly competitive environment:

Demigod’s Virtue: The ultimate prize is awarded exclusively to the #1 fastest player of each character class (e.g., Ranger, Sorceress, Witch, Monk, Warrior, Mercenary, Huntress, Druid). This incredibly rare unique item populates in a remove-only stash tab. Winning multiple races allows top players to accumulate these pieces, which will eventually cycle to form an entire, ultra-prestige transmog armor set.

Real-World Gear: Across various tournament iterations, the single overall fastest racer across all classes has won tangible rewards, such as custom-decaled Alienware Gaming Laptops.

Custom Merchandise: Top-ranking class pioneers frequently win official, high-quality Path of Exile 2 Displates (metal posters) or the opportunity to design an in-game Divination Card.

Rankings & Real-Time Standings
The grading metric for these events is simple: Time to Kill (TTK).

Real-Time Ladders: During active events, GGG hosts automated, real-time web leaderboards tracking exactly which zones top players are currently in.

Class-Specific Trophies: Rankings are heavily bifurcated by archetype. Because certain classes naturally progress or kill bosses quicker than others, you are fundamentally only racing against other players locked into your exact class character pool to win the coveted Demigods.

Official Broadcasts: GGG frequently partners with veteran community figureheads (like ZiggyD and RaizQT) to shoutcast the top-ranked perspective streams live on the official Path of Exile Twitch channel.
